South Winchester - November 2007
So it finally arrived. our last event of 2007 and what a year it has been! Again, the weather was in our favour, albeit only just, and 31 set out for our 10th event of the year. 24 members and 7 guests, took to the undulating fairways and greens of the home of the Hampshire PGA. The weather whilst dry, was chillingly cold and the ball was certainly not being hit the distances we have seen of late. Joined on this occasion by new member for 2008, John James, and hopefully a few of the regular guests may actually consider joining!
Continuing with two nearest the pins, on the 6th and 11th, the winners were Colin Edwards and Colin Parsons respectively. Well done chaps! Our best guest with an overall winning score of 38 points was new to be member John James who has won himself a 3 shot cut before he starts! Well done John and welcome aboard. In third place, on countback, was Mark Proudley with 33 points, as was second placed John Bartle. But our winner with 34 points was new member Terry Caister. Well played gents. Mark and John earn themselves a 1 shot cut each and Terry a 2 shot cut.

Lee On The Solent - October 07
The weather was definitely on our side. We had had a few days rain prior to the event but, that had served the course well and it was in very good condition. 23 players on the day and for the first time ever, we played a medal match on 3/4 handicap. It may be our last, but then again..... watch this space!
Joined for the first time by three new members in Ged Baren, Terry and Paul Caister, the ensued. Instead of logest drive, we changed the format to two nearest the pins, allowing everybody a chance at winning. Nearest the pin on the 9th was Tommy Frampton, whilst Terry Caister was nearest the pin on the 13th. Well done gents.
In third place was Ged Baren with a net 79; in second place (on countback) also with 79 was Colin Edwards. Both of these lucky golfers enjoy a 1 shot cut. But enjoying a 2 shot cut and winning overall was Mike Sinacola with a net 73.
Well done to everyone on a difficult but well presented course. Below are the day's net score rankings:

There were 120 players for this, our fourth charity event. Players of all abilities, there for the golf, but also to help raise money for our chosen charities this year. There were 132 people for the dinner afterwards. Charity Day photo's? - Click here
We raised an amazing £8200+ with the added bonus of gift aid from Adrian and Chris Knight's sponsored slims and the auction.
If you helped in this event in any way whatsoever, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will be starting work on 2008's day in Jan/Feb 2008, and if you'd like to take a more active role, contact either Tommy Frampton or Mark Osgood.

Chichester - July 2007
Overcast to start with and a threat of heavy rain and occasional thunderstorm. However, the weather held off and the day was perfect. Well almost... John Bartle decided to walk into a plate glass door and sustained a bloodied nose and pulled shoulder and that was before he tee'd off!
26 of us took to the fairways of the Tower course, technically the easier of their two courses, although judging by the scoring this day, the high winds may have had something to say about that.
Again another new member joined us, welcome to Kev Bascombe. Our membership is certainly on the up. And welcome back to our esteemed Chairman, Matt Fox, who has been out with a serious back injury for the last 18 months.
To the scoring then, Longest drive went to "Long" John Bartle who collected his prize with his parrot still on his shoulder and his arm still in a sling. Nearest the pin went to a regular guest ,Ted Gregory, who also was our best guest, and would have walked away with our top prize had he joined us as a member, with 38 points!
In 3rd place with 32 Points was Mike Sinacola followed by Colin Edwards in 2nd place with 33 points and top prize with 35 points, was our walking wounded, John Bartle. Mike and Colin earn 1 shot cuts on their handicaps and John 3 shots. Well done fellas.

East Horton - June 2007
Scorchio, scorchio y scorchio!!!
It was hot, damn hot and it was humid. What a great day for golf. 18 of us made it to East Horton for what was a terrific afternoon. The course was in excellent condition and brought some good scores home. The only downside was that the man in the drinks buggy was seen early on, drove straight past and never came back and with between 5 and 8 holes to go, we were parched to say the least, having all ran out of the normally substantial liquids. Hey ho!
15 members and three guests. The members, on the whole looked totally resplendant in their new HHGS logo'd shirts and caps. Even if we play rubbish hereon in, we will strike fear into our opponents hearts! Yeah right!
To the results then...... Nearest Pin went to Brian Kirby and Longest Drive to Adrian Knight (pats himself on the back). Our best guest was Ray Cook with 34 points. In third place with 37 points, Adrian Knight. In second place with 38 points (on countback) was Mike Sinacola. Both of whom enjoy a 1 shot cut on their handicaps. Also on 38 points was winner Tommy Frampton who will also get a 1 shot cut because his handicap is in single figures.
Well done to everyone that played and spare a thought for John Bartle, who decided not to score all of his back nine holes and thus it is reflected in the following list. He isn't a poor player!

Chilworth - May 2007
After a spell of fairly heavy weather, we were quite lucky to have a relatively rain free day. Just a couple of odd showers to test us, but not enough to dampen the spirit. Without a shadow of doubt, this was our best turnout for sometime. 31 players, 6 of which were guests when they started but left as members. Welcome Nick Brown and Mike Sinacola.
Mike Fagelman, Mark Proudley's guest unfortunately had to retire before the finish due to tiredness. Up until 4am getting back from seeing Southampton lose their play-off in Derby and getting a puncture on the way back. Still, you turned up Mike, most wouldn't have.
Although generally dry, it was gusty to say the least! However there were some good scores put in under the conditions.
Nearest pin went to Brian Kirby, who we believe was the only person to hit the green, but it was also quite close to the flag! Longest Drive was slightly contentious due to a bunker in the middle of the fairway which was GUR! Two players landed in it and under normal conditions they would have been nulled for the longest drive. However due to the GUR status, the moment they dropped their ball back into play, they both became longest drive!! After some clarification from the club pro, it was decided to award them jointly. Well done to Mark Proudley and Terry Partington.
Our best guest was Adrian Beale with 29 points. In 3rd place with 35 points, was Andy Meyer on his first outing with us. In Penultimate position with 36 points was John Gornall and in Pole position was newcomer Jim Richardson with 40 points. Andy and John have both earnt themselves a 1 shot cut each and Jim a three shot cut. Well done gents.
I was deeply thrilled to see so many of us at this event, so let's hope that this trend continues.

Wickham Park - April 2007
Further to our report on Cams Hall (see below), we are sorry to have to announce that it appears that there are actually bandits in our society!
The weather was very pleasant, albeit a bit breezy, and the 24 players definitely had a great time. Wickham Park was in a fair condition but the breeze certainly made some of the longer holes even longer! The good news here is that of the 7 guests that accompanied us, one has joined and two others have said definitely maybe!
Because of the fine weather experienced over the last month, the course was dry which meant although a little breezy, the balls generally ran furher than they normally would. This led to some fine scoring. For instance you wouldn't expect a score of 36 points to only get an 8th place!
So to the final scoring.... Our best guest was Clive Fortis, a guest of Mark Proudley, with 36 points. Longest Drive went to Jon Gane and Nearest Pin to Colin Parsons. In third place with 41 points was Colin Parsons who enjoys a 1.6 cut. 2nd place, on countback, was with Andy Wilton with 43 points, definitely in bandit country, and earns himself a 2.2 shot cut. And in Pole Position, also with 43 points and enjoying a 3.2 shot cut is Richard Winter; the biggest bandit in all meh-hee-co!

Cams Hall Estate Golf Club - March 2007
Normally with Society Days whatever the weather someone will come in with 40+ points, normally off a 28 handicap, and take the prize home. The fact that the winner today scored 32 points demonstrated two things; We have no bandits, and the wind was horrendous. The course was in good condition considering all that the winter had thrown at it, but the wind got to everyone in the end. We were without our secretary for the second event running but he has assured us that he will be back in time for Wickham next month.
Colin Edwards took the longest drive again, (I think we need to handicap Colin purely for the longest drive hole – no higher than a 7 iron!) Nearest Pin went to our guest Ted Gregory, our best guest with 29 points was Nathan Potter.
Joint third on 29 points – Tommy Frampton and Colin Edwards neither of which are cut, Second on thirty points – Brian Kirby (1 shot cut) and our winner with a very creditable 32 points was Jon Gane (2 shot cut). Below are the final scores allowing for correction of the course layout against cards and the positions allow for countback over the last three holes.

Dummer Golf Club - February 2007
The first event of 2007 took our society to Dummer Golf Club on the outskirts of Basingstoke. After what seemed like constant rain for the last couple of weeks it was a pleasure to play on a course where all the greens and tees were open as normal. Our secretary and main organiser Adrian Knight was absent f rom a Hackers Event for the first time following an operation on his hand, so the honour of organising the days play went to treasurer Pete Stubbs (Unfortunately, the dipstick forgot his camera and so there are no photographs of this event! Ed.)
A total of 17 players attended and all were impressed with the welcome from the club and the service they provided.
Longest Drive went to Colin Edwards, Nearest the Pin to Tommy Frampton and best guest to Jimmy Jacks.
Jon Gane took third place with a creditable 35 points. Tommy Frampton obviously wants his handicap reducing again after carding 38 points in second place, and congratulations go to Ray Hales who scored a magnificent 39 points which included two blobs.
Here are the final results
