Hon Chairman:
Matt opened the meeting at 7:45pm, welcoming members and their guests. He thanked everyone concerned for their work on the Charity Day that raised just over £8600 net and in excess of £9200 with the tax relief given to charites. He was pleased to see our membership up but that mentioned that we have enough Colin's in the society now!!
Hon Secretary:
Adrian stated that there had been 10 planned events this year and all went ahead as scheduled. Only one member notified the Society of non renewal of membership and this John Bartle due to injuries sustained to his shoulder. However our membership has increased over this last year to 46 members, and looks to rise further. This is a testament to our society.
This year we played 10 matches, we raised £8600+ for our two charities and we took on another society in the inter-society challenge. And we drew……. Ok so I lost the toss of a coin and they hold the trophy, but we'll take it back this year.
Our charity days started back in 2004 when we raised £614. Over the next two years it increased to £3375, then £5780 and this year we exceeded all our targets and wishes, raising a magnificent £8624. So far we have raised a staggering £18393 for charities and people less fortunate than ourselves. The charity day was never in our original plans, it just happened, by accident, when a charity a few of us supported could no longer afford to put on their golf day. We stepped in and the rest as they say is history.
Chris and I would like to thank all of you who sponsored us to lose weight last year. Your added generosity meant that an additional £1300 was added to the charity golf day which is why we were able to raise £8624. As an aside, the gift tax that you all offered meant that the charities each received an additional £300. On that front I will explain how Hampshire Hackers will be raising the extra funding for this year under any other business.
So finally a few statistics for you.
326 people played in HHGS events this year, not including the 20 players from the other society as against 250 the year before. A 30% increase.
Not including our Charity golf day or intersociety day, 33 Guests came along in 2006, but in 2007 this increased by 42% to 47
So we are doing something right and I'd say we belong to a society to be proud of.
Hon Treasurer:
Pete Stubbs presented the books to the members present and supplied them with a print out of the income and expenditure of the Society's main bank account. (for security reasons the figures are not shown here). He had also bought the actual books in for anyone present to check through.
Pete brought to our attention that we have built a slight excess in our funds and has recommended that we are subsidised on an event. It was suggested that it be our Ryder Cup style match against the YVGS.
Election of Officers:
Matthew asked if anybody else would care to stand for one of the Officer positions. No person came forward and the existing committee were unanimously voted in.
Amendments to Rules and Regulations:
None were offered
Announcement of next years fixtures:
Adrian ran through the list (as shown under the fixtures page of this site).
The big event for the Hackers is likely to be our return Ryder Cup style match against Yateley Village Golf Society. The date is booked and because of an excess fund we are carrying, it will be subsidised. This will of course be a members only event.
Any Other Business:
Our charity for 2008
Matthew explained that after visiting The Rainbow Centre himself, we should concentrate on this charity solely this year. Mark Osgood re-iterated the situation at The Rainbow Centre adding that they were struggling to make ends meet now, It was unanimously carried that this be our supported charity for 2008.
Election of Charity sub-committee
Tommy Frampton, Mark Osgood, Brian Kirby and Ray Cook along with continued support from Adrian Knight will form the Charity Day committee for the forthcoming year.
Promptness of Reply and Payment for Events
Adrian stressed the importance of responding quickly to emails on forthcoming society days to book places, and that payments must be made by the time stated. Adrian will not be chasing up payments this year. If your money isn't received on time, then you will not be playing.
