November 2011
A very high scoring day today. Great weather and the course in a fair condition. 25 of the scheduled 28 turned up to play. Unfortunately the last group did lose daylight for the last hole and came home at dusk.
Nearest the pin holes were the 7th and 11th and were won by Mike Sinacola and Brian Kirby respectively. With only 1 guest, best guest was Gary Payne.
In 3rd place with 40 points (on countback), Mike Grieshaber, who enjoys a 1 shot cut. In 2nd place, also on countback, but with 43 points was Andrew Inkson who enjoys a 2 shot cut along with our winner, Tommy Frampton, who also had 43 points and won the sweepstake with the highest score on stroke index holes 1-5.

October 2011 - Captain's Day
Our first ever Captain's Day and Dunwood Manor was chosen by Tommy Frampton. Just in the nick of time too as it's possible that the club may close and the land be sold by the middle of next year. What a gem of a course in the Hampshire countryside. 24 players started and finished, but for those who'd not played it before, a bit of a shock was instore. Very tree lined fairway, fast greens and unforgiving rough made this a good test of our golfing skills. So Fair play to our winners.
Nearest the pins on holes 3 & 18 were Paul Munter and Mike Sinacola respectively. Best guest with a very respectable 33 was Mark Humphrey. In third place with a creditable 32, on countback, was Paul Munter. In second spot, also with 32 was Andrew Inkson. Both Paul and Andrew will enjoy a 1 shot cut. But getting the 2 shot cut and winning the best prize was our Handicap Secretary, Ray Cook.
It was a tough course, so well done to our winners. The full placing's are listed below.

July 2011
Chichester's Cathedral course was a stunningly sunny day for the HHGS. Loads of Sunscreen required. The course was in terrific condition too.
This is most certainly a hard course with water down the sides of most fairways and in some cases, down both sides and protecting the greens! That said, the games flowed quite smoothly and no one was threatened with time penalties.
Our best guest was James Staple with 27 points. Our two nearest the pin winners were Brian Kirby and guest, James Staple. In 3rd place with 34 points was Mark Proudley. In 2nd place with 35 points was Andrew Inkson and the outright winner with 36 points, was Colin Parsons. Mark and Andrew enjoy a 1 shot cut each whilst Colin has the privilege of a 2 shot cut. Below is the event scoreboard.

June 2011
Romsey promised to be a very wet affair with the forcast being heavy rain. We must have had Lady Luck on our side as we only had a little light rain for a few holes. The greens were good, the course was great and we knew that high scores wouldn't happen, and we were right!
We came close to adding the time constraint penalty points as a group lost ground on a previous tee time, but considerations were taken and the points never actually issued.
Below is the event table. Best guest was Neil Glazebrook, nearest pins were won by Tommy Frampton and Daren Laidlaw. In 3rd place with 34 points and on countback was Terry Caister. Ray Cook was 2nd with 36 points on his home course and our winner with 37 points was Jon Gane, making his first outing with the Hackers this year. Terry and Ray earn a 1 shot cut and Jon, a 2 shot cut.

May 2011
Good weather yet again and the course was in great shape. They also did us proud with the meal afterwards. This was the first outing under the newly created rule of a team captain and the need to keep up with the group in front. It worked, so thanks fellas for making this happen.
Below is the event table. Nearest pins on 5th and 11th were Tommy Frampton and Patrick Harrison resepctively. Best guest was Patrick Harrison with 41 points. Hacker wise, 3rd was Terry Caister with 35 points, Andy Inkson with 37 in 2nd and on countback, which meant that Ray Cook took first spot. Ray has been cut two shots and Andy and Terry cut 1 each.

April 2011
Good weather conditions and the course in excellent condition with freshly cut greens running very fast. There has been a problem with slow play recently at our society days and hopefully this will be rectified by the nomination of a captain for each tee time whose responsibilty is to keep their group up to speed and to ensure if they can't score that the balls are picked up. This became very obvious when the lead group came in over one hour earlier than the second group and they weren't holding up the following group either.
That said, a good scoring day for most supported by the attendance of 11 guests. Our best guest, on countback, was Richard Warwick. Nearest the pins were won by guest, Charles Jackson on the 5th and by Jon Garthwaite on the 12th.
In third place with a solid 37 points and earning himself a 1 shot cut was Jon Garthwaite. In second place was Paul Munter with 40 points earning himself a 2 shot cut and our winner with an incredulous 42 points was Iain Huxley who also enjoys a 2 shot cut. The full leaderboard is below:

March 2011
Hamptworth served up the best meal ever for an ordinary Hackers event and did us proud. The greens however, were another matter altogether. They were certainly not in great shape, unlike the rest of the course. A tough test of golf, borne out by the scoring.
Well done to our best guest and overall winner, Darrel Indge. For the Hackers, Jon Garthwaite wins with 34 points and enjoys a 2 shot cut for the next 12 months. Graham Dunhill and Terry Caister placed 2nd and 3rd respectively enjoying a 1 shot cut for the next year.
Nearest the pins were Jeff Stanfield and Guest, Tony Proudley.

October 2010 - Lee on Solent
The day went reasonably well and our thanks go to Rob Henderson at Lee on the Solent Golf Club for making the day run so smoothly and beingso accomodating.
The 1 hour delay in teeing off actually benefitted everyone as it allowed the greens to thaw a little more and become more receptive..... as if any one of us was really able to take advantage of it!!
Our best guest was Andrew Inkson with 28 points and also the winner of nearest the pin on the13th hole. Nearest the pin on the 9th was won by Mike Sinacola.
In first place with 37 points and enjoying a 2 shot cut was Mark Proudley, 5 stableford points clear of second and third placements. There were 3 with 32 points meaning that countback was used to the last three holes. In second place was Andy Wilton followed by Kevin Bascombe, who both enjoy a 1 shot cut. Mike Sinacola, saved from the cut by the skin of his teeth. The full results are below.

August 2010 - Blacknest
We were expecting heavy rain, but had occasional dizzle. The greens were in good condition as were the fairways. However the tees were not. I guess that is the downside of a pay and play course. Food and hospitality of the club and staff......excellent.
19 of us turned up for what was to be a good day. One or two didn't like the course and to be fair there appeared to be a lot of criss-crossing across holes and driving off across each other too, especially the latter part of the course. That said, overall it was a nice course.
So to the results........ Nearest the pins were won by Mike Sinacola and Grahame Weir. Best guest with 39 points was Andrew Metters. In 3rd place and enjoying a 1 shot cut, with 36 Points, was Graham Dunhill. In 2nd place with 38 points and enjoying a 2 shot cut was Greg Dye. Our August champion with 40 points and enjoying a 3 shot cut is Grahame Weir. Well done guys..... well played.

July 2010 - Petersfield
Started off as an overcast day but rpidly turned into a scorcher. In all fairness, the fairways had been ravaged by the lack of rain and the club had instigated preferred lies. That said, the greens were in great condition and soetimes hard to judge (..... or was that just me?)
I have to say a slightly disappointing lunch afterwards. The club had changed caterers and the same ordered meal as last year was not what we got this time. Hey ho, you can't have everything!
We had, as always, 2 nearest the pins. This time they were on the 13th and 15th holes. Steve Grant was nearest on 13 and guest, David McGougan, was closest on 15. Well done guys.
Our best guest with 41 points, was David McGougan again, and it has to be said that his 16 handicap would be in jeopardy if he plays with us again..... testament to his skill.
In third place with 38 points, was Matt Bowles who enjoys a 1 shot handicap cut. Second place and on count-back, went to John Gornall with 40 points who also enjoys a 1 shot cut. The top placing however goes to Paul Munter who also had 40 points. Because of pauls high 28 handicap, he will be cut 3 shots to 25. Well done Gents, a great day was had by all..... even if some of the results didn't show it!

May 2010 - New Forest
The weather forecast was for a wet and windy day, but that couldn't have been further from the truth. Overcast but generally dry with a breeze wqs the reality. We played a 10 hole warm up competition in the morning (10 holes meant we were closer to the clubhouse at the end), followed by the full 18 holes in the afternoon.
The course is so different from most because the New Forest is a National Park and legislation means it's protected in many ways, and cutting fairways is one of them, however they were clearly marked out and didn't prove a problem. Staying on the relatively small greens was though!
In the morning the Competition was won by Mark Proudley, with Tommy Frampton and Pete Stubbs close behind whilst nearest the pin in 2 shots went to Brian Kirby and Graham Dunhill was nearest the pin. Best guest was Bruce Weaver.
The afternoon was the main event, as you'd expect and the results were as follows: Best guest with 42 points and overall winner was Bruce Weaver again, who afterwards joined the Hackers for a second year as a member. As far as the members go in 3rd place with 35 points was Iain Huxley, 2nd place with 36 points was Mark Proudley, both of whom are cut 1 point, whilst our winner on his first outing as a Hacker, was Grahame Weaver with 38 points, who offered to be cut to 9 from 15. Now, even our secretary isn't that Draconian.... well not quite anyway, and Graham has been cut 2 shots to 13. Nearest pins both went to Grahame Weir too..... so maybe a three shot cut is in order?

April 2010 - Corhampton
Another glorious day on the course....weather wise! The sun was definitely shining on the righteous brothers. The course played well too with only minor disruption for some works on the 6th par three. To compensate, a proper par three was set up as hole 7a and that was a good substitute.
In third place with 37 Points was Steve Grant (getting a massive 6 points on one hole for an eagle!) whilst in second place with 38 points.... Mike Sinacola. Steve gets a 2 shot cut and Mike a 1 shot cut. Our winner on his second time out with us was Matt Bowles with a solid 39 points and who also enjoys a 2 shot cut.
Nearest the pins went to Matt Bowles and Tommy Frampton. Our best guest was Mark Humphrey.

March 2010 - Cams Hall
Apparently a reasonably nice weather day graced us at Cams. A good number of members played it too.
In third place with 37 points was Tim Sheppard, closely nudged with a second place score of 38 to Graham Dunhill, but our undoubted winner was Brian Kirby with a worthy 41 points. Brian enjoys a 2 shot handicap cut whilst Graham and Tim enjoy a 1 shot reduction each.
Nearest pin on the 7th was Guest, Mike Grieshaber and nearest pin on the 11th was Graham Dunhill. Best guest was Mike Grieshaber.

February 2010 - Old Thorns
It was a frozen landscape and to be fair the greens weren't in great condition because of it, with putting being a lottery. However, we battled the cold as the Hackers won through! Albeit, the scoring wasn't where it usually is because of the conditions.
First place went to Iain Huxley with 32 Stableford points whilst second place went to Brian Kilby with 30 and thirdplace to Roy Challinor on28. Nearest pins went to Colin Parsons and Mark Nolan.

CHARITY DAY - Southwick Park - Sep 09
This day is not about the winning, but the taking part. That said the winning team were actually Hampshire Hackers!!!!
The weather stayed bright for the first half of play, but descended to heavy rain for the last 9 holes. A shotgun start did mean that most of us finished around the same time, which proved to be useful. The full financial gain for the charity is on our Charity page. Thanks to everyone that organised, played or donated to the day.
South Winchester - Aug 09
Whilst this event wasn't totally run for the Hackers, Matt Fox arranged this day for HHGS and the R3 group. A group that consists of professionals that deal with insolvency and restructuring for business. The day was a success, but we don't have the scores to put here.
Petersfield - July 09
Due to injury and sickness our filed of 28 was whittled back to 24. Under the weather conditions the course played well and was in superb condition.
Nearest the pin on the 13th was Gary Leggett. Our best guest was Ed Power. In 3rd place and earning a 1 shot cut was Andy Lenaghan with 34 points. And Wilton was In 2nd place with 35 points and earns himself a 1 shot cut too. The head honcho with 36 points and earning himself a 2 shot cut was Graham Dunhill. Well done fellas!

Corhampton turned out to be a bit of a damp affair to say the least. That said, a good turn out still ensued. The results are as follows: The Nearest pins were played out in the afternoon 9 holes and so are not listed here.
Our best guest was Alan Childs with 25 points. In 3rd place was Colin Rayson with 37 points, 2nd place went to Mark Proudley on 40 points and Dave Turvey wins bandito numero uno with a staggering 45 points. This earns Dave a 4 shot cut, Mark a 2 shot cut and Colin a 1 shot cut. Well done guys. Well earnt!

This event was completely organised by Mike Sinacola who did a fantastic job.

Wickham Park - April 09 - Four Club Challenge
It may have been the fact that you had to leave most of your clubs in the car that reduced the field for the third event of 2009. Eighteen members and two guests faced the dilemma of which three clubs were going to join the putter in their bag. The course was in quite good condition and for once the weather was on our side.
The best of the two guests was Morris McPhail with a very creditable 38 points. Nearest the pin on the twelfth with a shot to four feet was Roy Challinor, (yes he missed the putt). Nearest the pin in two on the ninth for the second event in a row was Tommy Frampton.
Third place went to Mike Sinacola, 37 points (on countback), second, Graham Dunhill, also 37 points, with our winner on 38 points Tommy Frampton. A magnificent effort from all our winners when you consider the lack of clubs. All agreed afterwards that this had been an unusual but enjoyable challenge and would be up for it again next year. The final placings are below.

SOUTHAMPTON MUNICIPAL - 2008
This was our last event of the 2008 season, and what a season it has been!
How lucky were we then? The weather had beeen quite poor for some time, a trolley ban had been imposed by the course, fear was it would be waterlogged! But, no! The course finally agreed that we could use buggies, it hadn't rained for a couple of days and the course was definitely playable but they did stick 11 temporary greens on until we complained sufficiently, that the number was reduced to four. So it was all going in our favour.
The course was a bit "sticky" still, but 35 of the 36 down to play, did play, and the weather held out.
Nearest the pins were on the 10th and 17th greens and were duly won by Ged Baren and Roger Marsland respectively. Our best guest of the day was Terry Cross with a brilliant 38 points.
In 3rd place with a very creditable 35 points was Roger Marsland; 2nd place went to Andy Wilton with a very good 36 points. Both Andy and Roger enjoy a 1 shot cut. Our winner with another superb 38 points was Roy Challinor. Under the conditions, 38 points is very good indeed and not suprisingly both Roy and Terry (best guest) are senior citizens, have had 12 heart by-passes between them and don't normally pull a cart bag. So it just goes to show what real experience can do! Well done fella's.

LEE ON THE SOLENT - 2008
Well what can I say? The weather for the previous few days had been horrendous, so what a pleasant surprise that the day was glorious. 39 of us turned up, 1 (me - Ed.) had to drop before we started, so 38 hit the fairways. Playing our only medal event of the year certainly took it's toll timewise with the final goup arriving for dinner at just about 5pm. I am advised that the course was in good condition and played very well.
So to the results and we start with the Nearest Pins on the 9th and 13th respectively. Well done to Jon Gane and Roy Challinor. Our best guest with a net 66 (3 under par) was Dave Turvey, who if he plays again will enjoy a 1 shot cut, so Dave, beware! To the HHGS then and in 3rd place with a net 68 and enjoying a 1 shot cut was Ray Cook. In 2nd place with a net 65 and enjoying a 2 shot cut was Roger Marsland, But in the top slot with a staggering net 64 and enjoying a 3 shot cut is Colin Warburg. Well done to everyone who played and made our penultimate event a success.

CHICHESTER (CATHEDRAL COURSE) - 2008
Yet again the weather was against us but still only two of the fold decided not to play. That said, the rain did ease off and eventually stop whilst we were still playing!!!
31 of us took to the Cathedral course fairways and were very surpised that the course was not flooded as the rain had been torrential for some previous 12 hours! The course, whilst playing long due to conditions, actually played really well.
There were, as always, 2 nearest pins, on the 4th and 15th and the winners were Iain Huxley and Marty Lenaghan, well done gents. Our best guest of the day with 23 points, was Phil Wilkinson. In fourth place on countback was Peter Prince with 26 points. 3rd place went to Iain Huxley on 27 points who earns a 1 shot cut, well done Iain. 2nd place was won by Marty Lenaghan with 30 points and also earns a 1 shot cut, but top of the pile with 31 points and earning a two shot cut is Brian Kirby. Well done fellas. The conditions were inhibitive enough to mean that a score in the top 20's was a good result that day.

ROWLANDS CASTLE - JUNE 2008
Well a few cried off because of the suspected rain, especially in the morning, but they missed out on a dry 9 hole warm up competition, which showed the course to play longer than expected. That said the course was in good condition with only a couple of greens on the "iffy side". After a pleasant lunch and relaxing chat we started to take to the fairways for the main competition.
There were a few light showers in the afternoon, but not enough to create the "drowned rat" look often associated with golfers who have had a hard time of it in pouring, torrential rain!
The morning session saw 23 players head out with Adrian Knight winning with 18 points on countback, Mike Sinacola 2nd and Mark Proudley 3rd. There were no nearest pins for the warm up.
The afternoon game featured an increase in players from 23 to 27 after they realised the weather wasn't as bad as first thought. Again the course played longer due to the soft surface. Nearest pins were won by Guest, Kevin Weir on the 2nd and Steve Grant on the 14th. Our best guest was Neil Hawkins with the highest score of the day, 33 points. Now if he'd been a member he'd have walked with a much better prize!
So, to the member winners we go............... In 3rd place with 29 points was Iain Huxley, who earns a 1 shot cut. In 2nd place was Mark Proudley with 30 points who also enjoys a 1 shot cut. But top of our pile with 31 points, Tommy (my handicap's too low!) Frampton. Who proved that it actually wasn't too low after all, and earns himself a 0.5 shot cut due to his existing low handicap. Well done fellas!

PETERSFIELD - MAY 2008
Our esteemed chairman, Matthew Fox provided the write up for this event as the injured secretary couldn't be there.... wimp!
Following a pleasant cross country drive, my only one of the day, I arrived at the new Petersfield golf course. Unlike some other members and guests who enjoyed a brief detour up and down the A3 looking for the small and unmarked turn off for the club ! The weather didn't let us down, sunshine, pleasant breeze, all was set for a quality game of golf. For me, that's as far as it got as quality was not a word I would have used in association to describe my golf that day. I am pleased to say however the course and club itself were excellent and I look forward to playing a better round next time.
Nearest pin on the 3rd was Colin Edwards and on the 13th was Iain Huxley. Well done fellas! Best guest on the day was Dave Turvey on his second outing with us.
In fourth place Colin Edwards on countback with 31 points, being pipped by Tommy Frampton with the same 31 points, who as 3rd gets cut .3 of a shot. Second place went to Colin Warburg with his second top 3 placing in two consecutive events with 35 points and enjoying a full 1 shot cut to boot! But our Leader of the Pack (vroom vroom) is Andy Wilton with 36 points and benefitting from a full 2 shot cut. Well done gents, good golf.

DUMMER - APRIL 2008
The weather looked ominous! It was raining heavily as we all arrived to test out the Dummer Golf Course fairways towards the latter end of April. Tunes of "April Showers" running through my mind as we downed our obligatory coffees and bacon rolls prior to the start of what turned out to be a glorious day. By the time we started teeing off, the sun was shining and the damp fairways dried off really quickly to reveal a good quality course, albeit some of the greens were a touch below their normal standards.
31 booked and 31 turned up. Another good compliment of guests accompanied us and it would be fair to say, gave the members a good run for their money!
So to the results. Nearest the pin on the 5th, over the water, was Ray Cook and on the 14th over the UK's longest bunker, was Colin Edwards. Well done gents, good results. Our best guest was Kevin Beech, who has aksed if he may join our fold........ (the jury's out!).
In fourth place with 35 points on countback was Bob Ward. 3rd place also on 35 points, but enjoying a 1 shot cut was Colin Warburg. The penultimate place went to Alan Dunger with 36 points who also enjoys a 1 shot cut on his second outing with HHGS. First place though went to Ged Baren who racked up 37 points and enjoys a 2 shot cut. So well done fellas, you played well on a tough course.

WICKHAM PARK - MARCH 2008
33 players took to the Wickham fairways and the conditions which were forecast to be wet and windy remained dry and fairly pleasant. Again two more new members started and we were joined, as always by a good compliment of guests, two of whom themselves joined by the end of the day!
Nearest the pin on the 5th was won by Colin Parsons and nearest the pin on the 12th by Cliff Chapman. Well done fellas! Our best guest with points was Marty Lenaghan, so well done, maybe you should consider becoming a member Marty as this was your second outing with us, then you can take full advantage of winning the major prizes!
In third place with 39 points, was Colin Warburg who enjoys a 1 shot cut. Second place, on countback, went to our treasurer, Pete Stubbs with a very good points score of 41 and enjoys a full 2 shot cut. However, top of the table also with 41 points was John Gornall who will be enjoying his 3 shot cut at the next event.
The final score table, taking into account count-back, is below:

CAMS HALL ESTATE GOLF CLUB - FEBRUARY 2008
39 of us took to the fairways of Cams Hall. 30 members and 9 guests. An excellent turnout for our first outing of the year. The weather was chilly but gloriously sunny and the course was in a very good condition with the greens being exceptionally fast. 5 of our members were playing their first society match.
The nearest the pin on the 7th was won by our Treasurer, Pete Stubbs, with his first ever prize won at one of our society days. Nearest the pin on the 17th was won by Matt Fox's guest, Mike Donaldson, who also won the best guest prize with a steady 36 points. In 3rd place and enjoying a 0.5 shot cut was Colin Edwards with 38 points. In 2nd place and enjoying a 2 shot cut with 41 points was Ged Baren and top of the tree for the second consecutive month with 43 points and enjoying a further 3 shot cut was John James.
